An Hillsboro man was sentenced to prison recently after pleading guilty to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

Fernando Trevino Jr., 44, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury on the third-degree felony charge in December. He pleaded guilty in February.

According to a bill of particulars, it is alleged that sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a white truck after receiving a report that Trevino allegedly stole the truck and other items in it. Trevino allegedly “attempted to elude deputies by driving up” a hill and “through the grass,” before eventually driving on state Route 73.

It is alleged that Trevino led deputies on a chase throughout portions of the city of Hillsboro, during which time he allegedly ran red lights, “nearly struck” two vehicles and drove up to 60 miles per hour in the city limits.

The bill of particulars alleges that Trevino eventually hit a vehicle on Harry Sauner Road, damaging the truck he was driving, then continued an attempt to flee before hitting a guardrail, “which resulted in the truck becoming disabled in the middle of the roadway on state Route 73.” He was then arrested, the bill of particulars says.

During a sentencing hearing March 8, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Trevino to a definite determinate term of 12 months in prison, with jail time credit of 69 days. Trevino was also ordered to pay restitution, and his driver’s license will be suspended, according to court records.
