Hillsboro man sentenced to community control for failure to register change of address

A Hillsboro man was sentenced Wednesday to community control after pleading guilty to failing to register a change of address as a registered sex offender.

Ronald D. Knechtly, 75, was indicted on the fourth-degree felony charge in May.

According to a bill of particulars, Knechtly failed to register Feb. 10, 2025 “and continuing thereafter,” as the indictments was handed down May 6.

It is alleged that Knechtly “failed to report a change off address” after a structure fire at his residence in November 2024 and did not respond to “multiple attempts … to make contact.” It was later determined that Knechtly was allegedly residing in Cincinnati.  

The bill of particulars says that Knechtly is classified as a tier I sex offender due to a previous conviction of importuning out of Brown County in 2016.

Knechtly pleaded guilty to the charge in June and was sentenced July 23 to three years of community control. He was ordered to report immediately to the probation department, according to court records.
