Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Oct. 8-14, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 281 911 calls, answered 122 requests for service, dispatched 143 fire and EMS runs, took 20 offense reports and investigated six traffic crashes.
At 12:55 a.m. on Oct. 8, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male lying in the ditch along S.R. 247 just south of Hillsboro. A deputy located the subject, who had laid down to rest after walking a long distance, and transported him to a location near the Adams County line.
On Oct. 9 at 2:03 p.m., a property owner in the 3000 block of S.R. 138 called the Sheriff’s Office to report a breaking-and-entering and theft. Several buildings were entered and items were stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
A deputy was dispatched to Ringer Lane at 5:39 p.m. on Oct. 11 to investigate a complaint of two youths on all-terrain vehicles trespassing on a neighbor’s property. The deputy located the youths and advised them accordingly. No charges were filed.
A motorist called the Sheriff’s Office at 2:12 a.m. on Oct. 12 to report two suspicious vehicles in the parking lot of a North Shore Drive business. A deputy dispatched to the scene located the vehicles in question and spoke to the occupants who had pulled over to repair a mechanical malfunction.
A citizen in the 9000 block of Careytown Road called the Sheriff’s Office at 9:22 a.m. on Oct. 14 to report her Chevrolet Cruze stolen sometime overnight. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to take a report and initiate an investigation. The vehicle was recovered a short time later with the help of an integrated GPS tracking system. The incident remains under investigation.
