Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Aug. 14-20, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 277 911 calls, answered 146 requests for service, dispatched 133 fire and EMS runs, took 25 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.
On Aug. 17 at 12:42 a.m., a Lynchburg resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report an intoxicated man with a gun had threatened several family members. Deputies responded to the Bayless Street home where they located the male in question. Joseph A. Walker, 38, was taken in to custody without incident and transported to the Highland County Justice Center. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor for domestic violence and one count of using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor.
A citizen on Williamson Road called the Sheriff’s Office to report his garage had been broken in to and an ATV was missing. A deputy arrived on the scene at 10:11 p.m. on Aug. 18 and took an offense report. On Aug. 20 at 8 a.m., the ATV was recovered after a neighbor spotted a person in the area riding the vehicle. A deputy is currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and charges are likely to follow.
Several citizens called the Sheriff’s Office at 3:05 p.m. on Aug. 20 to report a possible impaired driver on Careytown Road in Liberty Township. A deputy dispatched to patrol the area located the vehicle in the 9000 block of Careytown Road. The driver of the vehicle was given a series of field sobriety tests and placed under arrest. Randy M. Scantland, 59, was charged with one count of operating a vehicle under the influence and one count of possession of drugs.
