Highland County Sheriff's Office receives 99-percent compliance jail inspection
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections has recently announced that the Highland County Jail has received a 99-percent compliance rating in its 2012 Annual Jail Inspection Process.
The annual inspections audit overall jail operations including required medical care provided to the inmates, food service, health and fire inspections and policies and procedures as required by Ohio Minimum Jail Standards under which all Ohio County Full Service Jails are operated under, as promulgated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

Sheriff Ron Ward states that “the county jail in any county is the county’s biggest civil liability. I am appreciative of the efforts of Jail Administrator Lt. Chris Lengefeld and the dedicated and efficient work of the corrections staff at the Highland County Justice Center to make our jail a secure and safe place, not only for the inmates, but the staff that works in the jail. The way in which it operates on a daily basis is the reason it limits our civil liability, and yet keeps the worst of the worst off our streets and keeps the taxpayer burden to a minimum.”
The Highland County Jail was opened in October 2001 and is located within the Highland County Justice Center located at 130 Homestead Avenue and operates a 72-bed facility with 57 male beds and 15 females beds.
