Head-on crash injures five; three flown from scene

A head-on crash involving three vehicles in Fayette County injured five people and sent three to area hospitals by medical helicopters.

Emergency crews responded to U.S. 62 south at Snowhill Road early Friday, after a silver Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was reportedly traveling southbound on U.S. 62 and went left of center, striking a Ford Ranger head on.

The Ford reportedly spun around and struck a Chrysler 300 that was traveling southbound.

A female driver in the Ford, Caralyn Everman, 56, was taken to Highland District Hospital by Leesburg E.M.S., who responded to the scene to assist Fayette County. Two medical helicopters landed at the scene and transported two passengers, Jacob Richter, 30, Logan Robinson, 14, and the driver, Jeff Richter, 57, from the Chevrolet to Miami Valley Hospital.

Following the crash, a third vehicle, driven by 33-year-old Wesley Shifflett, of Hillsboro, was also struck, forcing his vehicle off the roadway into the ditch.
