Greenfield City Manager Ron Coffey read a proclamation Monday, March 11 at Greenfield City Hall in observance of March 2013 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in the village of Greenfield.
The proclamation reads, in part: "Individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, friends, neighbors and coworkers encourage everyone to focus on the abilities of all people; and the most effective way to increase this awareness is through everyone's active participation in community activities and the openness to learn and acknowledge each individual's contribution; and opportunities for citizens with developmental disabilities to function as independently and productively as possible must be fostered in our community; and in the month of March 2013, we recognize that our community is stronger when we 'Look Beyond' the disability and see what he or she has to offer."
Coffey read the proclamation on behalf of the Greenfield Village Council.
Students and staff from Hills and Dales Training Center and Highco, Inc. were on hand for the proclamation.
The annual balloon launch was held Friday outside the Highland County Courthouse.
Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Jeremy Shaffer and Tom Horst and Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings previously signed proclamations for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
