A Greenfield man charged earlier this year in connection with a Highland County Task Force investigation was sentenced this week to two years in prison.

In February, Aaron Smith, 39, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury and charged with three counts of trafficking in heroin, all fourth-degree felonies; and three counts of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, two fourth-degree felonies and one fifth-degree felony.

Smith pleaded guilty March 26 to two counts of trafficking in heroin, with the remaining four counts dismissed.

The charges stemmed from two alleged incidents in March 2023, where it is alleged that Smith “did knowingly obtain, possess or use,” and “did knowingly sell or offer to sell,” heroin in an amount equal to or exceeding one gram but less than five grams.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Smith to 12 months on each count, for a total of two years in prison. He had eight days of jail time credit. Smith was also ordered to pay $510 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force.
