A Greenfield man was sentenced to prison recently after pleading guilty to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

Jesse Binegar, 42, of Greenfield was previously indicted on the third-degree felony charge in July. He pleaded guilty Aug. 21.

According to a bill of particulars, the charge stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred June 7 in Greenfield. A police officer witnessed Binegar driving in the village of Greenfield, with the officer knowing that Binegar had a suspended license.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which point Binegar allegedly “accelerated at a high rate of speed,” driving through two stop signs, into opposite lanes of travel and into lots and alleys.

Binegar’s vehicle eventually came to a stop when he “struck two trees” near two residences, disabling the vehicle. From there, Binegar fled on foot and was pursued by multiple officers, including from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, who were unable to find him.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Binegar to 18 months in prison, with 60 days of jail time credit. Binegar is now incarcerated in the London Correctional Institution.
