Fayetteville man pleads guilty to charges of burglary, having weapons under disability

A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty to two felony charges in Brown County Common Pleas Court Friday, July 13, in connection with a May 16 incident that forced Fayetteville High School and Middle School to go on lockdown.
Kenneth P. Rummel, Jr., 38, of Fayetteville, appearing with attorney Julie Steddom, pleaded guilty to burglary, a second-degree felony, and having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, on Friday before Judge Scott T. Gusweiler.

As previously reported in The Highland County Press, Rummel was arrested last May after Brown County Dispatch received a call of gunshots fired in the vicinity of Russell Street in Fayetteville. Russell Street is directly east of Fayetteville Middle School.
Additional reports were received by the Brown County Dispatch Center advising the male suspect with a pistol was observed in the vicinity of Russell Street. Sergeant Jamey Sininger of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded and located a male, whom a witness identified as the subject with the gun, behind a dwelling on Russell Street. Near where the suspect was found, a 9mm handgun and spent shell casings were recovered. Rummel was taken into custody at that time.
Due to the proximity of the firearms discharge incident, Fayetteville High School and Middle School enacted their lockdown procedures.
A Brown County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Rummel with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; burglary, a second-degree felony; grand theft, a third-degree felony; and two counts of weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.
Gusweiler has ordered a pre-sentence investigation for Rummel, who is being held without bond pending sentence. Rummel is scheduled to be sentenced July 30.
