ODOT District 9 crews continue working this morning, treating routes for freezing rain and “black ice.”
Although routes may be clear and wet, pavement can be slick and ice can form quickly and without warning, even after salt has been applied. In addition, bridges and overpasses are at greater risk for ice to form as their surface temperatures are generally colder than pavement.
Motorists need to exercise extreme caution when traveling in potentially icy conditions. In addition to reducing their speed, drivers need to allow additional travel time and maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles.
Several area schools are either closed or on a delay.
