Chamber of Commerce reports on PUCO/AEP case

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce was in attendance today (August 8, 2012) as the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) met in Columbus to release its findings on the revised rate plan (known as the electric security plan) for AEP-Ohio.

The PUCO approved AEP–Ohio’s revised electric security plan (ESP).

Overall, the ESP freezes base generation rate for three years, provides competitive choice to consumers immediately, moves Ohio forward to a competitive market place and assures AEP share holders that revenue and rate of return will be stable.

AEP – Ohio costumers – especially small businesses – will be protected from baring the brunt of all increases. This ESP shifts rate increase to all users with no more than a 12% increase for any users.

While we recognize the need for AEP-Ohio to remain profitable and appreciate their continued partnership with Highland County, we appreciate the PUCO taking into consideration the need for our small business community and area residents to be able to gradually absorb any increases that are necessary and not be financially threatened as they were in the original agreement of 2011.

While any additional expenses are burdensome to small businesses, maintaining manageable and predictable increases allows for planning and forecasting by our enterprises.

The Highland County Chamber of Commerce as been an active advocate for our business community regarding this issue.

Beginning with a meeting with PUCO and Rep. Cliff Rosenberger on February 3, 2012 through today’s PUCO meeting, the Chamber has been leading the conversation to affect positive change for our local business community, and will continue to be involved in this issue.
