Auditor Faber comments on DeWine’s announcement concerning certification of publicly funded recovery housing

COLUMBUS — Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber released the following statement in response to Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement Monday that his administration will increase oversight and directly handle certification of substance abuse recovery centers that receive public funding for the support they offer:

“We are happy the governor is finally acting here," Faber said.

"There’s too much room for fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid and other big government programs absent guardrails to stop public resources from ending up in the pockets of crooks. My office has flagged shortcomings in Medicaid controls that have or could be costing Ohioans billions of dollars, including recent audit work that indicated weaknesses in recovery services. This is a good first step to ensure taxpayer dollars are going to support Ohioans who are truly in need of this support.”
