Adena to hold high school athlete baseline concussion testing

Lead Summary

CHILLICOTHE – Adena Sports Medicine is excited to offer baseline concussion testing for all area high school athletes, participating in any sport, on Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Adena Bone and Joint Center, Adena Health Pavilion, 4437 S.R. 159, Suite G15, Chillicothe. The cost is $25.

Baseline tests are an important tool in treating suspected concussions and other traumatic brain injuries. A baseline test assesses a student-athlete’s brain function, and then if an injury is sustained the results of the baseline test will be compared to a post-injury test in order to assess cognitive changes.

The team at Adena Sports Medicine utilizes the ClearEdge Brain Health Toolkit to perform baseline concussion tests, evaluate head injuries, help inform return-to-activity decisions and promote lifelong brain health. The test will take about 20 minutes to complete and includes a short symptom evaluation, four cognitive tests completed on a tablet and eight balance tests using a sensor worn on the lower back.

Parents can register their child or children by visiting https://portal.clearedgetest.com. A parent must create an account and then add each child.
