Wilmington College exceeds Giving Tuesday goal by 41%

Wilmington College geared up for the annual Giving Tuesday promotion by placing 300 large and small green bows on scores of familiar campus locations in mid-November to indicate they represent gifts to the institution.

Many were surprised to know the College Gateway, Carillon, shelves of library books, benches, trees and scores of scholarships are enjoyed today because of someone’s generosity yesterday.

College advancement officials termed the visual illustration of giving as “Green with Gratitude.”

That realization laid the groundwork for the annual day of giving on Tuesday, Dec. 3, when the College exceeded its ambitious $100,000 goal by raising $141,734.

The nearly 100 gifts came from as nearby as persons on campus to as far away as 16 states while supporting 44 designations ranging from scholarships and sports teams to support for diversity-themed trips and current operations. Also, nearly three dozen employees signed up for recurring donations via payroll deductions, resulting in seven more than last year.

Brittany Chrisman ’22/MOL ’24, assistant director of the Annual Fund & Leadership Giving Outreach, said the green bows were designed to visually represent that many of the things we often take for granted at WC are made possible by donors.

“The visual impact of green bows blooming all over campus showcases the generosity and spirit of giving that defines our community and makes Wilmington College so special,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who donated, funded the eight matches and one challenge, and shared our link on social media. We are so grateful for the gift of all of you.”
