The Hillsboro Elks Lodge and the Southern State Community College Foundation have announced Sophia Michael as the 2026 recipient of the Hillsboro Elks Scholarship.
Sophia is a 2026 graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School who has completed one year of pre-pharmacy coursework. She plans to continue her pre-pharmacy studies at Southern State Community College for one additional year before transferring to Ohio Northern University to pursue their 4-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
The $1,000 Hillsboro Elks scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and who display a commitment to volunteerism and community service.
Through involvement in Student Council, FFA, Junior Fairboard, National Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa, Michael has had numerous opportunities to serve her school and community. Her volunteer efforts have included organizing hygiene product donations for the Highland County Homeless Shelter, assisting with Christmas Blessings for Children, visiting nursing home residents during the holidays, supporting Matthew 25 Ministries, helping maintain the Highland County Fairgrounds, and volunteering at a melanoma skin screening event at The Christ Hospital Cancer Center.
“The Hillsboro Elks is proud to partner with Southern State and pleased to help a deserving student like Sophia continue her education through our support,” said Curran Butler, representative of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge.
“On behalf of Southern State Community College, I extend congratulations to Sophia on being selected as a recipient of the Hillsboro Elks Scholarship,” said Southern State President Dr. Nicole Roades. “Her dedication to service and leadership is truly commendable and reflects the promising impact this investment will have in the years ahead. We are also deeply grateful to the Hillsboro Elks Club for their generosity and continued support of education. Their commitment to developing the next generation of servant leaders is both valued and appreciated.”
