Denver L. Conley

Denver L. Conley, 91, of Hillsboro, passed away June 8, 2023 at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
 
He was born Jan. 20, 1932 in Brown County, the son of the late Dewey and Verna (McCarty) Conley.

On Sept. 19, 2010, his loving wife of 53 years, Jane Schroeder Conley, passed away.

Denver was a proud Korean War Veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Crew Chief in Kunsan, Korea. After his service, Denver worked as a civilian with the U.S. Air Force at Clinton County AFB, Rickenbacker AFB and Wright-Patterson AFB, where he retired in 1988.

In 1992, Denver began his second career as a crime victim advocate. He implemented both the Hillsboro and Highland County Prosecutor’s Office programs on a volunteer basis. His second retirement came in 2001.

Denver was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He served as the Highland County Veterans Service Commissioner from 2006-12. Denver was instrumental in having a portion of SR 124 named as the Army PFC Neil R. Scott Memorial Highway. Denver was also proud of his work on the Highland County Veterans Memorial and the bricks dedicated to his brothers.

Denver was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Denver was a 50-year member and Past Master of Highland Lodge #38, Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio and a Knight of York Cross of Honor.

Surviving are his son, Kevin (Tracy) Conley of Middletown; daughter, Karen (Jeff) Darland of Lexington, Ky.; and six grandchildren, Conley Darland, Christopher Conley, Claire Darland, Kyle Conley, Carson Conley and Kennedi Conley.

In addition to his parents and wife, Denver was preceded in death by his six brothers, Harold, Homer, Freddie, Delbert, Darrell and Troy.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14 at 11 a.m. with Masonic services beginning at noon, followed by funeral services with Alex Butler officiating. It will be held at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 E. Main St., Hillsboro. Interment will follow in the New Market Baptist Cemetery, New Market, Ohio, where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord full military honors.
