On July 19, the Cincinnati Reds honored Leesburg's Ron Caldwell as their Hometown Hero in recognition for his service in the Air Force.

Caldwell achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was based out of Wright-Patterson. He was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War where he served as a plane refueler.

He returned home to Leesburg where he proudly farms land in the area.

At Reds.com, the "Hometown Hero" is described as the following:

A Hometown Hero is a member (past or present) of the Armed Forces who is recognized for his or her service to our country at Great American Ball Park. Recognitions occur at the end of the second inning during every Reds home game. Each Hometown Hero also receives an official Hometown Hero hat and a Reds Hometown Hero challenge coin.
