Batavia Post investigating 3-vehicle fatal crash on SR 28
The Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash involving three motor vehicles. The crash occurred July 20 at approximately 7:29 a.m. on state Route 28 in Miami Township, Clermont County.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup, operated by Jesse D. Sallmen, 18, Milford, was traveling southwest on state Route 28 when it allegedly rear-ended a 2017 Ford Focus, operated by John C. Smith, 92, Milford. The Ford Focus was pushed forward from the impact and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, operated by Austin L. Ringland, 25, Milford.
As a result of the crash, Smith sustained serious injuries. Smith was transported to Bethesda North Hospital by EMS and later transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Smith succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of the crash, the Post announced Monday.
Sallmen sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bethesda North Hospital by EMS. Ringland sustained no injuries as a result of the crash. All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Miami Township Fire and EMS, the Miami Township Police Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation provided assistance at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol – Batavia Post.
