GREENFIELD — From the 32-minute mark of the first half until the final buzzer, the McClain Tigers controlled all aspects of the match, defeating the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles 9-0 Tuesday at McClain Field in Greenfield.

McClain was led by senior Luis Rivas with four goals, including three in the first half.

McClain improves to 8-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the South Central Ohio League as their win Tuesday was a league match. MHS won't play again until Monday when they travel to Blanchester. Next Tuesday, they host the Hillsboro Indians with first-place implications in league play. The Hillsboro Indians lost their first SCOL match of the season Tuesday in a 2-0 loss to the Washington Blue Lions at Gardner Park. The Tigers are the lone team in the SCOL without a league loss.

"We played a very good game," MHS coach Shawn Jackson said. "We had the opportunity to take a lot of shots, and our defense did very well. We played like we should play."

The Tigers led 6-0 after the first 40 minutes with goals from Rivas, Reid Garrison, Ben Chamblin and Tommy Free.

Rivas scored his first goal with 32:07 left in the opening half, followed by Garrison's goal at the 15:31 mark, making the score 2-0. The goal was assisted by Trey Lytle.

Rivas followed with a goal almost two minutes later (13:35), kicking the ball from 25 yards out for a three-goal advantage.

The hat-trick by Rivas came with 3:58 remaining in the opening half with the senior captain maneuvering through the Golden Eagle defense for the goal.

Chamblin scored his goal with 3:30 left in the opening half, near the net, and the final goal of the first 40 minutes came from Free with the assist by Kieran O'Hearn.

The first goal of the second half was from Lytle with 26:43 remaining, giving the Tigers a seven-goal advantage.

Rivas scored his fourth goal of the match at the 23:49 mark of the half, with the assist from Sam Henry for an 8-0 lead.

MHS went up by nine goals when Nick Rivas put the ball past the MP keeper with 14:10 left in the second half.

Ryan Case finished with eight saves for the Tigers, while Henry and Lytle each had three assists. Luis Rivas and O'Hearn each had one assist.

"Madison-Plains will get better. We've been where they are at, but they played hard," Jackson said.

As mentioned above, the Tigers don't play again until Monday.

"We will have a good week of practice as we prepare for Monday and Tuesday of next week," Jackson said. "It will be a big week for us as we have four games next week."

GAME NOTES: MP was handed two yellow cards and one red card … The Tigers had 39 shots on goal … MHS finished with six corner kick attempts.
