LC scores 13 goals in rout of West Union

DODSONVILLE — The dominant play in the Southern Hills League by the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs continued Wednesday as they easily defeated the West Union Lady Mustangs 13-0 at LCHS.
In their past two matches, LC has out-shot their opponents 69-1, allowing no goals as they have shut out opponents eight of nine times this season.
In Wednesday's match the Lady Mustangs (4-0, 9-0) gaining eight goals in the opening half. In the second half, LC scored five goals for the 13-goal total.
For the season, the Lady Mustangs have outscored their opponents 76-1.
"We are continuing our good play," LC coach Dennis West said. "Our bench was able to play more than half the match."
Scoring two goals in the match were Brandy Hunter, Shelby Stewart, Karen Hilt, Sarah Spidel and Sydney Cromer. Scoring one goal each were Taylor Scott, Samantha Whitenack and Morgan Fittro.
The first goal of the match was from Hunter (32:47) off a cross kick from Scott. Scott followed with a goal at the 30:14 mark of the opening half as she beat the WU defense. Hilt's first goal came as she dribbled through the defense with 28:28 remaining on the first-half clock.
Hunter came back to make the score 4-0 as she kicked the ball from 23 yards out at the 25-minute mark, followed with a goal from Stewart with 24:01 on the clock.
Whitenack put LC ahead 6-0 off a pass from Fittro, her second goal of the match as she assisted the previous goal from Stewart with 22:07 remaining in the opening half.
Spidel finished the first half scoring with two goals at the 2:57 and .49 second mark. She beat the WU defense both times.
In the second half, Hilt scored with 34:36 left in the first half (with the assist from cromer), followed by consecutive goals from Cromer (27:10, 15:00) to make the score 11-0.
Stewart and Fittro scored the final two goals (11:45, 7:09) for the 12th and 13th goals of the match. Also gaining assists in the second half were Hunter, Hilt, Fittro and Stewart.
LC improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the SHL. They are scheduled to play again on Thursday as they host Western Brown at 4:30 p.m.
