GREENFIELD — After two games, the volleyball match between the McClain Lady Tigers and Lynchburg-Clay was tied at one, but two strong efforts in the third and fourth games propelled the Lady Tigers to their sixth win of the season, Monday at McClain High School.

For the Lady Tigers (who were coming off consecutive losses), they won games one, three and four by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-6. LC won the second game by a score of 25-12.

The win puts MHS at 6-3 overall and they have an South Central Ohio league mark of 1-2. LC has one win, coming against West Union earlier this season.

"We picked up the pace in the fourth game with our serves and attacks," MHS coach Emma Gall said.

In game one, the Lady Tigers led 12-7 early on due in part to points scored by Jenna Perie and Sasha Lawwell. LC cut the MHS lead to five points with a block at the net by Kristi Hansen.

Serves by Bean and more points by Perie and out of bounds hits by the Lady Mustangs allowed the Lady Tigers to score the first game win of the match at 25-13.

LC had one of their most productive matches of the season, winning 25-12 as they led 5-2 early on with help from serves from Nikki Jones. After more points from Jessica Hall, Shayla Bennett and out of bounds hits by MHS, the Lady Mustangs compiled a lead of 12-7, including an ace from Sawyer Rammel.

Later in the second game, following another ace by Rammel, a serve by Kelsey Clinton helped put LC up 20-11. LC took a 10-point lead with a point from Claire Magie. Magie also scored the final two points for LC, pushing the ball over the net to an empty spot of the court for the 25th point of game two.

"The girls came up strong, and that second game showed them if they keep their head in the game, they can have success," LC coach Roger Hickey said. "We had some good hustle."

MHS dominated the early stages of the third game with five straight points off serves by Bean. MHS increased their lead to 9-3 when Perie tipped the ball softly over the net. LC continued to battle with Rammel scoring two consecutive big hits at the front of the net.

MHS answered those two hits later in the game with eight straight points as Logan Greene had multiple aces from serves during that span, for a 23-8 advantage. After two points by Magie, McClain's Makenzie Olaker scored the final point in the third game.

The fourth game was even more dominant by the Lady Tigers as they scored the first 13 points with serves and aces from Bean. The consecutive scoring by MHS was stopped with a block by Danielle Coleman of LC.

Perie scored points off a spike and ace to make the score 18-3 for MHS, and later in the fourth game Lawwell, Brittany Mullikin and Greene all added points for MHS. The final point of the fourth game and match was off an LC out of bounds hit.

Bean finished with 28 good serves, missing on just two, according to Gall. Perie finished with 13 attacks.[[In-content Ad]]
