Lady Mustangs blank North Adams

DODSONVILLE — Friday was all about the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs in their Southern Hills League match against the North Adams Lady Green Devils.  

After scoring nine goals and allowing zero, the Lady Mustangs posted their eighth straight win and seventh shutout of the season with their 9-0 win at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

LC scored four first-half goals and added five more in the second half for their 63rd goal of the season in their first eight matches. They have outscored their opponents 63-1 in those first eight matches.

The win puts LC at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Hills League.

"This was one of our best passing games of the season," LC coach Dennis West said. "We were moving the ball well, and our defense turned in another outstanding performance."

Scoring goals in the first half were Taylor Scott, Shelby Stewart and two from Sarah Spidel. Scott scored the first goal of the match with 25:01 with the assist from Samantha Whitenack.

Stewart followed with a goal at the 14:49 mark of the half, with the assist from a cross kick by Brandy Hunter.

Spidel's first goal of the first half came with 12:09 remaining when Sydney Cromer hit a cross kick to Stewart, who in turn passed to Spidel for the goal.

Spidel made it a 4-0 score when she scored a goal with 6:21 left in the half. The assist was credited to Stewart.

Second-half goals were scored by Brooke Hertlein, Scott, Whitenack, Stewart and Karen Hilt.

Hertlein's goal was unassisted with 31:15 remaining in the match, followed by an outback goal from Scott off the initial kick from Hilt for a 6-0 lead.

Whitenack scored a goal with 11:53 left in the match, followed by a second goal from Stewart with 2:15 left. Hilt ended the scoring with an 18-yard kick to the back of the net with 1:30 remaining.

Emma Setty was the keeper for LC as the Lady Mustangs outshot the Lady Green Devils 48-0.
