Lady Indians drop match in 3 games to MP

HILLSBORO — Wednesday's South Central Ohio League match didn't finish in favor of the home team with the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles in Highland County. MP won the first two games, then wrapped up the match in the third game to sweep the host Hillsboro Lady Indians.
MP won by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-4 to improve to 5-0 in SCOL play.
Their most dominating game was the final one, as they took a decisive 15-0 lead in game three with serves from Madison Betz, along with points by Nikki Moller, Abby Finney and Rickelle Davis.
The first HHS point of the third game came when MP hit the ball out of play. HHS made the score 15-2 after MP was called for four hits, and then the score rocketed to 18-3 in favor of the Lady Golden Eagles.
Hillsboro's final point of the match was scored by Heather Tipton, making the score 18-4. MP wrapped up the game and match with seven consecutive points with help from Finney and Miller.
The first two games were a little more competitive, but MP took a strong 8-2 lead with points from Finney and Davis at the top of the net and a big spike by Miller in game one.
An ace by MP's Kelsey McSeveney put the Lady Golden Eagles ahead 13-5.
HHS stopped MP from adding to their lead in game one with Cailin Wehrung scoring a point for the Lady Indians off a serve. HHS scored their ninth point of the first game when captain McCaylee Priest spiked the ball over the net. HHS added another point with the help of Lily Marshall, cutting the MP lead to eight points.
Hillsboro's Casey Dunham made the score 20-12, and a serve by captain Kaylee Ballein was the last point scored by HHS in game one. MP collected four straight points to end the first game with a 25-13 win.
In game two, MP started off with a 7-1 lead, then increased it to a 9-2 advantage. Back-to-back points by Ballein and Priest brought HHS within five points of tying the second game, but MP rallied and took a 20-10 advantage. Hillsboro's Autumn Hacker also helped HHS cut into the MP lead with a point to make the score 11-5.
Later in the second game, Priest brought HHS within nine points of tying the score, but MP was too much with Finney ending the second game with a spike over the net for the 25-13 score.[[In-content Ad]]
