    Chinese New Year 2010 begins  on Valentine’s Day Feb. 14 and No. 1 China Buffet on North High Street in Hillsboro is ready for the celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Jacky Wu and their children Angel and Eric (pictured at right) are gracious hosts and welcome everyone to join in the celebration.

    Bradley D. Penwell has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program.  The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

  • Appalachian Artisans Guild displays items at the Hillsboro Library
    While we are waiting for spring to pass, the Appalachian Artisans Guild has brought in a small display of items to promote their upcoming show, Cabin Fever Arts Festival. They have some handcrafts, folk art, pictures, and more on display. Come to the Hillsboro library to look over their work and get more infomation about their festival. The Guild's work will only be displayed during the month of February.

    The annual meeting of the Greenfield Area Christian Center will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, at the new home of the New Directions Youth Ministry located at 251 Jefferson Street.

        The Highland County Senior Citizens Center and Walgreens are sponsoring an H1N1 Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, Feb. 4 from noon to 4 p.m. Ages 14 years and older are eligible.
  • Retired judge and McClain graduate to be guest at Black History program
    James F. Cannon will be the guest of honor at the Black History Month program at the Highland County District Library in February.  Mr. Cannon, a 1949 graduate of McClain High School, went on to serve in the U. S. Air Force for 20 years.  After retiring from the Air Force, he studied at Wright State University, receiving both a bachelor's and a master's degree.
  • Greenfield Historical Society to host dinner; society co-president recounts story of C.R. Patterson
    On Sunday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., the Greenfield Historical Society is holding their second Sunday Dinner at the Grain and Hay Building, McArthur Way and Jefferson Street in Greenfield. The cost is $10 and includes pork loin, cheesy potatoes, marinated beans, coleslaw, rolls, dessert, and drinks. No reservations are required. The first dinner in January was a complete success and was sold out before 1. Once again, there will be a wait staff to serve the dinner, and you will have real plats and silverware to eat from. There will be no take-outs, however.
