    This week, the Highland County District Library said goodbye to Erma Gibbs, one of its longest-serving employees.

    Candle-lite employees recently donated $1,027 to the Highland County Children Services.
      Candle-lite and its employees are proud to be able to give this gift. As well as giving a monetary gift, the Candle-lite Activity Fund and some of the Candle-lite employees purchased Christmas gifts for the children.

    Elizabeth Hershberger took first place in the Rocky Fork Lake Area Christmas chili cook-off at Bayview Campground & Cottages on Saturday, Dec. 11, earning $119 for her chosen charity of choice, Highland District Hospital Maternity Ward.

    Heartland of Hillsboro nursing home has a new administrator who said she is looking forward to continuing quality care in a town that she says feels like home.
     Sandy Leedy began serving as the administrator at Heartland in November. She has worked in the field for 16 years.

    Wreaths Across America takes place annually to pay tribute to those who have given us the liberties we enjoy today. On Dec. 12, the Highland County Honor Guard, Junior States of America Lynchburg-Clay, Junior American Citizens Buckley Eaglets, and Waw-wil-a-way NSDAR participated in the placing of a wreath by Jeremiah Tarr and Phillip Jacobs at the Veterans Memorial on the courthouse lawn.

    Highland County District Library's "Merry Money" stores were open last weekend.  This program encourages children from age 3 to grade 6 to earn "Merry Money" for the books they read and record in their logs.  They can redeem this "money" in the Library Christmas Shop to buy gifts for their family and friends.
