Poll: 60% of independents disapprove of Biden’s job as president

A majority of Americans disapprove of the job President Joe Biden is doing, according to a new poll.
The Center Square Voter’s Voice poll released this week asked voters, “When it comes to President Joe Biden, do you approve or disapprove of how he’s handling his job?”
The survey found that most voters disapprove of the job Biden is doing, with 55% saying so and only 45% saying they approve of the president’s work.
Women rate the president better, giving him a 47% approval rating while 52% disapprove.
Men, though, are less impressed, with only 41% approving of his job as president and 58% disapproving.
White and Hispanic voters rate Biden roughly the same, with 58% disapproval and about 40% approval.
Black voters favor Biden much more, with 75% approving of the job he is doing as president, compared to 20% who disapprove.
Notably, true independents, which are independents who do not lean to one party or the other, rate Biden poorly. Only 32% of true independents approve of Biden’s job as president, while 60% disapprove.
The poll also showed some of those independent voters would peel away from Biden if Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein stay in the race, widening former President Donald Trump's lead over Biden.
When it comes to the economy, Biden receives a similar rating with 45% of likely voters approving of his job as president, compared to 54% who disapprove. Female voters are split 47%-52% against Biden while male voters are 43%-56% against Biden’s work on the economy.
The data comes after inflation spiked during the first half of Biden’s term before later slowing. Jobs numbers have remained steady, and the U.S. has rebounded in many ways since the COVID-era economic hardships.
However, prices have risen about 18% since Biden took office, among the top issues identified by voters heading into November's presidential election.
The latest data shows prices are be on the rise again.
As The Center Square previously reported, The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly Producer Price Index, a key measure of inflation, which reported an increase of 0.6% in February, more than experts had predicted. That price increase data came just after consumer pricing data from BLS showed a 0.3% increase last month.
Jason Furman, Harvard professor and former economic advisor to President Barack Obama, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the inflation was “unusually high.”
“Core CPI came in high for the eighth month in a row,” Furman said.
“For perspective, the 3/6/12 month rates higher than any time from 1992-2019,” he added. “Inflation remains unusually high.”
The high disapproval numbers are a problem for Biden, who is seeking reelection this November. The same survey found former President Donald Trump beats Biden 46%-45% with likely voters in a head-to-head matchup.
The poll was conducted in conjunction with Noble Predictive Insights this month, querying 2,510 respondents nearly split between parties along with 340 true independents. The margin of error is +/- 2.1% for likely voters.
