Highland Countians are being asked (demanded) by the government and by wealthy Ohio State officials to pass MORE tax levies on ourselves in order to keep the local Ag. Extension and 4-H and Soil & Water Conservation Districts going. They say Issue 4 and Issue 5 will EACH raise a quarter-million dollars of OUR money per year to "rescue" these desireable programs for the next five years.

Until we elect those individuals who are committed to eliminating waste and needless programs, paying down the rampant public debt, and implementing a wholesale change in the way our government does business, decline will continue. If a business operated the way our government does, it would go out of business in short order.

My staff at the Hillsboro City Schools Early Childhood Center and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who donated their time to work at the annual kindergarten registration held April 7. Approximately 144 students were registered that day.

Questions have arisen about the current tax campaigns being waged in Highland County on behalf of Cooperative Extension and the Soil and Water Conservation District. Who is paying for all those yard signs?

We are writing to ask voters in Highland County to join us in supporting our Highland Soil and Water Conservation on May 4th.

I don't know Clyde Evans well. I've only met him a few times. What I've heard from people in southern Ohio is that Clyde Evans is a nice guy, but that David Daniels is a nice guy who would make a better, more conservative state senator.

In the upcoming primary election on May 4, you will be asked to decide whether to repeal part of the 1/2 percent income tax that was enacted in the mid-1980s specifically for your safety services, police and fire.

What's going on in God's house? Have churches forgotten about their main focus, teaching "love ye one another as Christ has loved you," and leading souls to Christ Should the church be involved in political rallies?

Let's not forget that Highland County was the first in the state to establish this conservation district in 1942. It is now time for the voters of Highland County to step up again and support continued conservation efforts by voting YES on May 4 in support of the Highland Soil & Water Conservation District.

The record of the extreme right has constantly been on the wrong side of history. They were wrong on Social Security. They were wrong on passing civil rights legislation. They were wrong on Medicare. They were wrong on women's rights. They were wrong on Iraq and wrong on healthcare reform.

Sometimes you can vote for the popular thing, but there are times when you have to vote yes, even if it costs you, simply because it’s right.

I have the same problem with Gary Lewis as I do with the Tea Party he so enthusiastically supports. With so many valid issues to deal with in a respectful manner, why keep shouting lies and spreading misinformation?
