At a Luncheon on December 16, the Adena Health Foundation honored Mrs.
Eileen Manchester and her family for establishing the James R. Manchester
Radiology Education Endowment in memory of the late Dr. James R. Manchester,
the first radiologist for Chillicothe Hospital. The fund was made possible
by a very generous gift of JP Morgan Chase stock.

“My husband was always passionate about education and wanted his staff to
achieve the highest level of education they could obtain,” Mrs. Manchester
commented. “I wanted to create this fund to commemorate that passion and
provide opportunities for students.”

Dr. Manchester was the sole radiologist for the Hospital, from 1957 until
1972, until the arrival of Dr. Young S. Choice. Mrs. Manchester explained
that her late husband was always investigating new technology that would aid
his practice and be better for patients. In fact, when personal computers
were introduced, Dr. Manchester was the first to have one in the Radiology
Department.

The commemorative plaque that was presented to the Manchester family will be
displayed on a wall leading to the Radiology Department at Adena Medical
Center in Chillicothe.  Here, as they walk by or enter the Department,
patients, visitors and staff will be able to see the plaque with the
inscription that reads, in part, “To Honor the Memory and Dedication of Dr.
James R. Manchester, Chief of Radiology 1957 – 1992.”

Investment earnings from the new scholarship fund will assist Adena staff
members who wish to obtain radiologic technology education and qualified
students from Adena’s 10-county service region who wish to obtain degrees in
any of the various areas of radiology. Interested students may download the
2010 Adena Healthcare Scholarships application form and guidelines in March
from the www.adena.org website.  For more information about the Adena Health
Foundation, please call 740.779.7528.[[In-content Ad]]
