Lebanon Post investigating a three-vehicle serious injury crash on state Route 48 in Lebanon
LEBANON – On April 21, at approximately 3:50 a.m., the Lebanon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was dispatched to a reckless vehicle, later identified as a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, traveling south on state Route 48. Shortly thereafter, at approximately 3:52 a.m., the Chevrolet Suburban was involved in a three-vehicle serious injury crash.
The crash occurred on state Route 48 near mile marker 11, just north of the intersection at Arrow Springs Boulevard in Lebanon, Warren County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, operated by Johnny Shelton, 46, Lebanon, was traveling south on state Route 48. The Chevrolet Suburban traveled off the left side of the roadway through the median into the northbound lanes of state Route 48. A 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, operated by Jennifer Shockey, 42, Pleasant Plain, and a 2012 Honda Civic, operated by Dale Peck, 54, Middletown, were both traveling north on state Route 48.
The Chevrolet Traverse was traveling north in the left lane, and the Honda Civic was traveling north in the right lane. The Chevrolet Suburban struck the oncoming Chevrolet Traverse head-on. After striking the Chevrolet Traverse head-on, the Chevrolet Suburban then struck the Honda Civic. After contact, the Chevrolet Suburban overturned multiple times coming to final rest near the southeast corner of the
intersection.
The Chevrolet Traverse rotated to the left and came to final rest within the intersection, and the Honda Civic came to final rest in the northbound lanes of state Route 48, just north of the intersection.
After the crash, Shelton fled the scene of the crash on foot. He was located shortly thereafter at Bethesda Medical Center at Arrow Springs. He was initially treated for minor injuries. He was later transported by air ambulance to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital for further treatment.
Shockey was transported by ground ambulance to Atrium Medical Center with serious
injuries. Peck was transported by ground ambulance to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital with
serious injuries.
The northbound lanes of state Route 48 were temporarily shut down during the crash investigation. Both lanes reopened just after 10:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation by the Lebanon Post.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lebanon Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Fire Division & EMS, Union Township EMS, Case Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
