Former Ohio Congressman Charlie Wilson dies at 70

Former Ohio Congressman and State Rep. Charlie Wilson died Sunday, April 14 in Florida.
Wilson was 70.
According to his website, before being elected to Congress, Wilson enjoyed a distinguished record of public service.
In 1996, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served until 2004, when he was elected to the Ohio Senate.
After two constructive years in the Ohio Senate, Wilson won his historic write-in campaign in 2006, filling the congressional seat vacated by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
Born in Dillonvale, Ohio, Wilson was the owner of two small businesses operated throughout the Ohio Valley: Wilson Funeral Homes and Wilson Furniture Store.

He attended Ohio University in Athens. While still in college, Wilson worked the assembly line at the Ford Automotive auto plant in Lorain.
"I served with Charlie in the Ohio Legislature for six years and he was a loyal friend in good times and bad," Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern said. "An outspoken advocate for working people, Charlie never wavered in his service to his constituents or his lifelong pursuit to help improve the lives of others."
Wilson is survived by four sons and nine grandchildren.
