Fling Barn welcomes Shaun Murphy Band June 29
Former singer/songwriter with the group Little Feat, Shaun Murphy & the Shaun Murphy Band, will be appearing Saturday, June 29 at The Fling Barn, south of Hillsboro.
Murphy, a native of Nebraska, moved to Detroit as a teenager and was soon appearing with local bands under the name Stoney.
In 1971, she signed with Rare Earth Records in Los Angeles, as half of the short lived duo, Stoney & Meatloaf.
Returning to Detroit in 1973, Shaun began working with Bob Seger. She has continue to record and tour with Seger, appearing on most of his recorded work since "Katmandu" and several tours, including his 2012 World Tour.
In 1985, Shaun joined Eric Clapton for his "Behind the Sun" album and tour, culminating with an appearance at Live Aid. Shaun has also recorded and toured with The Moody Blues, Phil Collins, Joe Walsh and Alice Cooper, among others.
In 1994, she became a full-time member of Little Feat as vocalist and songwriter, recording five studio albums and performing over 1,400 concerts before leaving the group in 2009.
Since then, The Shaun Murphy Band has released four albums, including the latest, "Ask For the Moon," in 2012. Known for her powerhouse singing style, Shaun Murphy is well respected among her peers and recognized as a true singer of the blues.
• Bear's Concessions will be serving sandwiches and sides beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music begins at 7:30 p.m., with opening act Kelly Red & the Hammerheads.
Admission for this special event is $15.
The Fling Barn is located six miles south of Hillsboro off state Route 247 at 8205 West Berrysville Road.
