For the first time since at least the '90s, the McClain Tigers have started the season with four straight victories, with victory No. 4 coming on the road against the Shroder Paideia Academy Jaguars by a 48-6 score.

The Tigers came out of the gate strong with 14 first-quarter points, followed by another 14 points in the second quarter for a 28-6 halftime lead. Shroder Paideia Academy scored their six points in the first quarter.

In the second half, the Tigers (4-0) scored another 20 points while keeping Shroder scoreless for the 48-6 victory.

Braden Wright for the Tigers finished with six carries for 88 yards, including one run for 53 yards. The quarterback also passed for 10 yards and had one TD throw.

The leading rusher for McClain was Andrew Potts with 11 carries for 146 yards, averaging 13.3 yards per carry. His best carry went for 35 yards.

As a team, the Tigers rushed for 305 yards on 32 carries, with other individual rushing totals including Trevor Stonerock (three carries, 24 yards), Owen Sykes (six carries, seven yards), Kaden Penwell (three carries, 25 yards), Emerson Yates (two caries, eight yards) and Riley Cummins (one carry, seven yards).

Also at quarterback for MHS, Drake Stapleton had a 5-yard touchdown pass. Catching touchdown passes for MHS were Conner McCune and Seth Wise.

On defense, Penwell led MHS with 11 total tackles, while Yates totaled eight and Landen Eubanks finished with six. Penwell also had two sacks, while Potts finished with one sack. Yates and Jayden Allison each recorded a half-sack.

Josiah Burchett had an interception for McClain.

Week 6 for the Tigers will be next Friday (Sept. 24) as they are scheduled to face the Washington Blue Lions (2-2) at McClain Field in the Frontier Athletic Conference opener. Washington didn’t play this week as their game was canceled due to COVID-19.
