The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs traveled to Ripley Monday, May 10, due to field conditions at LCHS. The Lady Mustangs got off the bus ready to avenge an earlier-season loss to the Division I-leading Ripley Lady Blue Jays.

LC pitcher Sarah McKinney picked up the win on the night, and the Lady Mustangs defense played a spectacular clean game, defeating Ripley by an 8-2 score.

The Lady Mustangs’ defense was highlighted on the evening by two outstanding running catches by freshman left fielder Lainie Lunsford.

The Lady Mustangs were led by three players with multi-hit games. Haleigh Snider led the way going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, followed by Jenna Waits going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lunsford also collecting two hits in four trips with one RBI.

"We have been talking about winning one inning at a time, and tonight it just clicked,” Lynchburg-Clay head coach Chad McConnaughey said. “Our pitching, fielding and hitting just all came together.

“We now host Federal Hocking [Tuesday] in the first round of the sectional tournament. We will focus on one inning at a time."

The No. 24 seeded Lady Mustangs’ game against No. 25 Federal Hocking is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
