The Hillsboro Lady Indians opened Frontier Athletic Conference play Saturday, Dec. 2 but were unable to start their conference season with a win, falling to the Washington Lady Blue Lions, 72-26 at Washington Senior High School.

Hillsboro trailed Washington, 17-6 at the conclusion of the first eight minutes. After being outscored 20-10 in the second quarter, Washington held a 37-16 lead at halftime. Hillsboro added two points in the third, while Washington scored 20. The Lady Blue Lions also outscored the Lady Indians in the fourth, 15-8.

Hillsboro was led in scoring by Delaney Eakins with eight points. Eakins scored three two-point field goals and was 2-of-6 from the free-throw line. Josie Hopkins followed with four points for the Lady Indians, with all four points coming from the free-throw line.

Scoring three points each were Riley Moberly and Kaley Burns. Lana Grover, Natalie Sullivan and Kayden Watson each totaled two points, and Kelsey Burns and Karleigh Hopkins each added one point.

Washington (2-0, 1-0) was led by Hannah Haithcock with 15 points. Also scoring in double-digits for the Lady Blue Lions were Shawna Conger with 14 points and Rayana Burns with 10 points.

The loss moves HHS to 0-1 in the FAC and 1-2 overall.

Hillsboro will host Jackson in another FAC matchup on Wednesday night, while Washington will host Chillicothe.
