On Monday (Jan. 13), the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs defeated West Union by a 73-35 score, and before on Saturday, Jan. 11 LCHS lost to Western Brown.

In the win over the Lady Dragons on Monday (Jan. 13), Lynchburg-Clay dominated the first frame at 17-8 and in the second quarter outscored the visiting West Union squad by a 14-13 score for a halftime advantage of 10 points at 31-21 in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.

In the second half, LCHS (2-5, 8-7) added 24 points in the third and 18 points to their overall total in the fourth frame. West Union scored just three points in the third quarter and 11 points in the fourth.

“This was a good team win for us. Kaylee Lunsford jumped out and set the tone for us defensively. Zoe (Fittro) had a good game and shot the ball well for us,” LCHS head coach Whitney Lewis said. “This was a grind game at the half, and we came out in the second and were able to take control.”

Zoe Fittro led the Lady Mustangs with 22 points, as she collected five two-point baskets and four 3-pointers (all within the first three quarters).

Serena Smith totaled 16 points, scoring 10 of her points off five two-point field goals, along with two 3-pointers.

Logan Binkley ended the game with 14 points as she had five two-point baskets as well, and she was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Sierra Benney finished with 11 points, making three 3-pointers and she had a two-point field goal.

Kaylee Lunsford added nine points in the game with three two-point baskets, and she was 3-of-3 in her free throw shooting. Finishing the scoring for LCHS was Serene Walker with one point.

LCHS totaled 19 two-point field goals, nine 3-pointers (Fittro 4, Benney 3, Smith 2), and as a team they were 8-of-12 from the free-throw line.

West Union was led by Alexa Rowe with 20 points as she made one two-point basket, four 3-pointers and she was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.

On Saturday (Jan. 11), the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost a non-conference game to the host Western Brown Lady Broncos, 63-48.

It was a 12-10 score at the end of the first quarter in favor of Western Brown, then in the second, the Lady Broncos outscored LCHS, 20-13 for a halftime lead of 32-23.

The second half included a 12-point and 19-point third and fourth quarter respectively by WBHS, while Lynchburg-Clay had 15 points in the third and 10 points in the fourth frame.

Zoe Fittro led LCHS with 17 points as the senior made three 3-pointers (two in the first frame, one in the fourth) along with two two-point baskets, and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Logan Binkley finished the game with 11 points, as she made four two-point baskets and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Kaylee Lunsford ended the game with 10 points, including four two-point field goals and a 3-of-4 performance from the charity stripe.

Other LC scoring included five points (one 3-pointer) from Serena Smith, three points by Serene Walker and two points scored by Katie McLaughlin.

As a team, LCHS totaled 11 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and they were 11-of-17 from the free-throw line.

Western Brown was led by Baylee Jones with 21 points. She made three 3-pointers, five two-point baskets and was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.

Overall, Western Brown totaled 14 two-point baskets, nine 3-pointers and were 8-of-15 in their free-throw shooting.
