GAME PREVIEW:

To reach the district semifinals this Saturday, the Wheelersburg Pirates earned a bye in the first round of sectionals as they were a No. 2 seed, and they followed their regular season with a sectional final win over No. 10 seeded Ironton, winning by a 53-47 score.

The Pirates have won 18 games up to this point of the season, and of those wins, they finished with a 12-2 SOC record, trailing only Oak Hill in the conference standings, who were 15-1.

According to MaxPreps.com, the Pirates have won their past five games, defeating Oak Hill, Portsmouth West, South Point, Valley and Ironton. Wheelersburg is averaging 59 points per game, while their defense is allowing just 47 ppg.

In the sectional finals, senior guard Cole Lowery led the Pirates with 19 points, junior forward Tanner Holden totaled 15 points and freshman JJ Truitt finished with 11 points.

Now for the Mustangs, they enter this game after winning their sectional final game against the Portsmouth Trojans by a 47-42 score at Waverly High School. LC also had a sectional semifinal game where they defeated Adena, 78-68.

In the win over Portsmouth, the Mustangs were led by senior forward Eric McLaughlin with 23 points, while junior guard Damin Pierson and sophomore Raymond Conner each finished with 10 points in the game.

This season, the Mustangs are averaging 59.7 ppg and are allowing 56 ppg. In their two postseason games, LC is averaging 62 ppg and have allowed 55 ppg.

The district semifinal game is scheduled to tip-off at 4:45 p.m. in Athens at the Ohio University Convocation Center.
