At the inaugural Frontier Athletic Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, the McClain Tigers finished conference runners-up to the champion Miami Trace Panthers, while the Hillsboro Indians placed fourth at MTHS.

The Tigers had two champions on the day, while HHS collected one individual championship at the event. Also for MHS, they totaled two third-place finishes and four runner-up spots, while the Indians had four third-place finishes and two runner-up spots.

Champions for the Tigers were Lucas Jansen at 106 pounds and Keegan Rawlins at 152 pounds. Hillsboro’s champion was Deegan Boris at 195 pounds.

As for overall team finishes, the champion Panthers scored 180.5 points, followed by McClain with 127 points. In third was Washington (109), followed by Hillsboro in fourth place with 105 points. The fifth-place team was Chillicothe at 101.5, and in sixth place was Jackson, scoring 92 points.

In the first round for the Indians, Scott Eastes won by pin at 1:45 over Chillicothe’s Joey Mihelich at the 138-pound weight class. At 145 pounds, Cordell Covault lost by decision to Miami Trace’s Jaymon Flaugher.

Also in the first round, McClain’s Keegan Rawlins won the 152-pound match against Hillsboro’s Richard Adkins by pin at 4:32. The 170-pound match saw Hillsboro’s Mason Lewis fall to Washington’s Chris Conger by pin at 4:20.

In the 182-pound match, Justin Conn of HHS fell to Jack Anders of MT by pin at 47 seconds. In the same weight class, McClain’s Kyler Trefz won by pin over Jackson’s Anthony Parks at 2:32.

Still in the first round, Boris of HHS won by pin against Aaron Causey of Jackson at 38 seconds. McClain’s Kade Rawlins won his first-round 220-pound match over Dalton Bartley of MT by a 6-4 decision.

In the semifinal round, McClain’s Lucas Jansen gained a victory by pin over Phillip Allison of Jackson at 1:25. Hillsboro’s Tanner Warner lost his 113-pound match to Graham Carson of MT by pin at 1:44.

The 120-pound semifinal match saw Isaac Lewis of HHS win by pin over Jackson’s Jeremy Preston at 4:27. The 126-pound semifinal contest for HHS saw Wade Remsing fall by pin against MT’s Mcale Callahan at 3:41. Also in the semifinals, Dawson Jansen of McClain gained a win with a bye at 126 pounds.

In a 132-pound semifinal match, Quinton Smith of MHS pinned Hillsboro’s James Coday at 2:53. Eastes won his second match of the day, this time via major decision over McClain’s Jake Krafthefer (11-2). The 145-pound semifinals saw Jacob Barton of MHS fall to Miami Trace’s Flaugher by pin at 3:25. Keegan Rawlins gained his second win of the day in the semifinals by defeating Wyatt Pfeifer of Washington in 34 seconds.

The semifinals for Hillsboro and McClain also included Mason Stanley of HHS losing to Brice Parks at 160 pounds with a technical fall, and McClain’s Phil Waters falling via major decision to James Munro of MT (13-2).

At 170 pounds in the semifinals, McClain’s Justin Kegley lost by pin to Joseph Hilliard of Chillicothe at 3:01. In a 182-pound semifinal match, Trefz of McClain defeated Collin Lindsey of CHS by a 9-4 decision.

Two Highland County wrestlers competed in the semifinals of the 195-pound weight class as Hillsboro’s Boris defeated Ethan Taylor of McClain by an 8-4 decision. At 220 pounds, Kade Rawlins won over Andreas Utrea of WCH by pin at 1:30. The 285-pound semifinal match saw McClain’s Kai Borrelli fall to Washington’s Colton McNichols by pin at 1:05.

Also in the consolation semifinals, at 132 pounds Coday won by pin over Washington’s Zion Wilson at the 2:30 mark of the match.

Still in the consolation semifinals, at 138 pounds, Krafthefer (MHS) won over MT’s Dawson Wallace by pin at 3:26. At 145 pounds, Covault (HHS) defeated Brennan Greene of Jackson by pin at 38 seconds. Also at 145 pounds, Barton (MHS) lost to Jay Fettig of WCH by pin at 2:17.

The 152-pound consolation semifinals also included Adkins (HHS) defeating Joey Richison of Jackson by a 3-0 decision. Also in the 160-pound weight class, Waters (MHS) defeated Jared Kuhn of WCH by pin at 48 seconds. In a 170-pound match in the consolation semifinals, Lewis (HHS) defeated Kegley (MHS) by a 5-1 decision.

As the consolation semifinals continued, Lindsey (CHS) won via technical fall over Conn (HHS) at 182 pounds. The 195-pound consolation semifinals match included Taylor (MHS) defeating David Tyndall (MT) by a 5-3 decision. At 285 pounds, Nick Colley (CHS) defeated McClain’s Borrelli by pin at 138.

At 126 pounds, Hillsboro’s Remsing finished in third place overall via bye. Also in a third-place match, Warner (HHS) won by pin over Jordan Rohrer in 20 seconds.

In the finals, McClain’s Lucas Jansen won by pin over Washington’s Courtney Walker in 25 seconds to become the champion of the 106-pound weight class, finishing 2-0 on the day.

At 113 pounds, Warner (HHS) won his third-place match against Jordan Rohrer (WCH) by pin at 20 seconds. Warner finished 2-1 overall on the day.

Isaac Lewis of HHS placed second at 120 pounds. In the finals, he fell to Storm Duffy of MT by pin at 2:44. Lewis finished 1-1 on the day.

The finals of the 126-pound weight class saw McClain’s Dawson Jansen fall to Callahan (MT) by technical fall. Jansen finished as the runner-up at 126 with a record of 1-1 in the FAC Tournament.

Smith of McClain was second place overall in the 132-pound weight class. He lost the first-place match to Brandon Queen of Jackson by pin at 2:33. Smith finished the event 1-1. Also at 132 pounds, Hillsboro’s Coday was fourth place overall. He went 1-2 overall, losing in the third-place match to Wes Gandee (MT) by pin at 2:28.

Eastes (HHS) placed second overall in the 138-pound class as he finished 2-1 overall in the tournament. Eastes lost the first-place match to Will Baughn (WCH) by pin at 3:00. Also at 138 pounds, Krafthefer (MHS) was fourth overall with a 1-2 record at the FAC event. Krafthefer lost in the third-place match to Noah Richison (JHS) by pin at 4:54.

In a 145-pound third-place match, Hillsboro’s Covault won by pin over Jay Fettig (WCH) at 2:06. Covault ended the day with a record of 2-1.

The 152-pound finals began with Rawlins (MHS) winning over Miami Trace’s Dylan Arnold by pin at 1:24. Rawlins was 3-0 overall in the event. Also at 152 pounds, Hillsboro’s Adkins was third after winning his third-place match over Pfeifer (WCH) by pin at 35 seconds. Adkins finished 2-1 on the day.

The 160-pound third place match was all Highland County as Waters (MHS) defeated Stanley (HHS) by an 11-6 decision. Waters ended the day at 2-1, and Stanley was 1-2 overall for the Indians.

Lewis of HHS placed fourth overall in the 170-pound weight class. Lewis lost the third-place match to Jacob Tinkler of Miami Trace by a 4-3 decision. For the day, Lewis finished 1-2 overall.

McClain’s Trefz placed second at 182 pounds as he lost the first-place match to Jack Anders of Miami Trace by a 7-2 decision. Trefz finished the day at 2-1 overall.

The 195-pound third-place mach saw McClain’s Taylor win by a 5-2 decision over Washington’s Jaimie McCane. Taylor ended the day at 2-1 overall.

Hillsboro’s Boris was the 195-pound champion by a 5-4 decision by defeating Nick Erslan of Chillicothe. Boris finished the day 3-0 overall.

Next was the 220-pound finals, where Kade Rawlins (MHS) placed as the runner-up after finishing the day at 2-1 overall. Kade Rawlins lost in the first-place match to Cole Maxson of Chillicothe by a 5-4 decision.
