Saturday night was one with a win for the Hillsboro Lady Indians, as they put together four strong quarters to defend their home court and defeat the Piketon Redstreaks 53-48.

The non-conference win saw Hillsboro’s Kayden Watson net 19 points to lead the team in scoring. Watson finished with four two-point buckets, two 3-pointers and was 5-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Also in double-figure scoring was Josie Hopkins with 10 points. Hopkins scored four two-point field goals and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Indians — who gained their second win of the season and led for the entire game — led Piketon, 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. From there, HHS outscored Piketon, 12-11 in the second for a halftime lead of 26-21. In the third, both teams scored 11 points, and in the fourth, both teams scored 16 points.

In the game, HHS scored 16 points off turnovers and 28 points in the paint. The bench play of HHS was on point, as they tallied 21 points on the night.

Other final scoring totals for HHS included nine points by Kelsey Burns, eight points from Lana Grover, five points by Karleigh Hopkins and two points from Gracie Dean.

HHS was led in rebounding by Burns with six, while Josie Hopkins and Jordan Moberly each had five. Karleigh Hopkins led HHS with two assists, while she also led the Lady Indians with four steals. Josie Hopkins, Karleigh Hopkins and Dean each had one block.
