Fairfield defeats Meigs in five sets for sectional crown
After falling in the first two sets of their Division III SE District Sectional Final game at Grandle Gymnasium, the No. 8 seeded Fairfield Lady Lions defended their home court with a five-set victory over visiting No. 17 Meigs to win a sectional championship.
Fairfield lost the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16, but then flipped the script by winning the next three sets on their home court.
The Lady Lions answered with a set three win of 25-17 and followed by winning set four at 25-12 to force a fifth and final set for the title.
Fairfield won the fifth set by an 18-16 score as they held a 15-14 lead, but Meigs tied the score at 15-15. The Lady Lions battled back for a 17-16 lead, and eventually scored the match-winning point for the two-point win at 18-16.
The victory by Fairfield moves them to the district semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Piketon High School as they will face the No. 5 seeded Zane Trace Lady Pioneers of the Scioto Valley Conference at 7:30 p.m.

Hillsboro falls to Gallia Academy in sectional finals
The Hillsboro Lady Indians lost in the Division II Sectional Finals on Wednesday, Oct. 19 in three sets to the host Gallia Academy Blue Devils.
HHS lost by scores of 25-16, 25-06 and 25-16.
For HHS, Cora Akers totaled four kills, two digs and one block. Samantha Tipton had two kills, while Halle Reveal finished with seven digs. Mya Bell and Addi Huff each had six digs, while Huff also finished with five assists. Teammate Allie Roush totaled two assists.

Hillsboro defeats River Valley in sectional semifinals
In their opener for the 2022 SE District Sectional round, the Hillsboro Lady Indians won in the semifinals by defeating River Valley on the road in five sets.
HHS lost set one by a 25-18 score and lost set two at 25-23. From there, it was all Hillsboro in the winning column, as they won the next three sets at 25-22, 25-14 and 15-12.
Cora Akers totaled 18 kills, 16 digs and one block for the Lady Indians, while teammate Brynli Labig had three kills and two digs.
Jolee Cummings ended the game with eight kills and three digs, and teammate Samantha Tipton finished the match with 11 kills, four blocks, four digs and one ace.
Hillsboro’s Mya Bell totaled two kills, one ace and seven digs. Addison Huff collected one block, three aces and 37 assists. Lexie Swayne collected 11 digs, and teammate Camryn Spruell finished with two kills, two blocks and four digs.
Halle Reveal added two aces and nine digs for Hillsboro. Chloe Masslow finished with nine digs and one ace.

Whiteoak gains sectional semifinal win against Eastern Beaver
The No. 8 seeded Whiteoak Wildcats earned a Monday win (Oct. 17) in the Division IV SE District Sectional Semifinals vs. No. 9 seeded Eastern Beaver in four sets.
WHS won set one at 25-21 and then lost the second set at 25-22. In the final two sets, Whiteoak won at 25-22 and 26-24.
Having double-figure kills for WHS were Claire Ames with 13, Lydia Carr with 11 and Brianna Hill with 10.
The assists leader was Ames with 15, followed by Adrionna Phillips with nine.
WHS totaled 10 aces with Brianna Walker, Brooke Campbell and Brianna Hill each with three, while Carr had one ace.
Leading in digs was Campbell with 25, followed by Walker with 22. Carr and Hill each finished with 18 digs, Ames totaled 17 digs, Georgia Neuhaus had 14 digs, Phillips finished with 10 digs and Elly McMullen collected five digs.
Carr had the team lead in blocks with nine, while Neuhaus had five blocks. With two blocks each wee Ames and Campbell.
WHS lost in the sectional finals to No. 1 seeded Trimble in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-16 on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

McClain falls to Jackson in sectional quarterfinals
In Division II tournament action, the No. 17 seeded McClain Lady Tigers lost in four sets on Monday, Oct. 17 against the No. 16 seeded Jackson Ironladies.
McClain was first to win as they took set one at 25-17. The next three sets went to Jackson by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-23.
MHS ends the season at 7-16 overall, as they were 5-5 in the FAC.

LCHS loses in sectionals to Meigs
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost in three sets in the Division III SE District Sectional Quarterfinals to Meigs on three sets.
LCHS lost by scores of 25-17, 25-09 and 25-06.
