GIRLS SOCCER: Lady Lions dominate Piketon with 10-goal win

Scoring five goals in each half on Thursday night, the Fairfield Lady Lions won easily by a 10-0 score on their home field. Ella Newkirk led the way with a four-goal performance, plus she added two assists.

Kennedy Zink added two goals and one assist for the Lady Lions, and Cadence Saunders also scored two goals and had one assist in the win. Also with a goal for FHS was Kenzie Tolle. Piketon had an own goal, adding to the 10-goal total for Fairfield.

Newkirk also played goal for some of the match, as she had the two saves on defense for FHS at keeper.

BOYS SOCCER: Lions lose to Piketon; Fairfield wins over Western Latham

The Fairfield Lions boys soccer teams lost a home match in non-conference play to the visiting Piketon Redstreaks by a 2-1 score.

The score was tied at 1-1 at halftime, but PHS scored the only goal of the second half. Fairfield’s goal was scored by Reese Teeters with the assist by Grant Baker. Hunter Burns of FHS totaled two saves at keeper.

On Wednesday (Sept. 16), the Fairfield Lions defeated Western Latham by a 6-2 score at FHS.

In the win, the Lions led 3-1 at halftime, and after another 3-1 score in the second half, it was the Lions winning by the aforementioned four-goal victory.

Teeters totaled three goals in the win, plus he gained an assist. With one goal each were Koben Zink, Daniel Ward and Hunter McIntosh. Assists were credited to Brayden Zimmerman, Zink (two) and McIntosh.

At goal for the Lions, Hunter Burns had five saves.

VOLLEYBALL: Hillsboro fall in FAC match to Miami Trace

The Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball team lost in three sets on Thursday night to the host Miami Trace Panthers.

HHS lost by scores of 25-17, 25-5 and 25-10.

VOLLEYBALL: McClain drops home FAC match to Chillicothe

The McClain Lady Tigers volleyball team lost in three sets on Thursday night against the visiting Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers on senior night.

MHS lost by scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-14.

GIRLS SOCCER: LC Lady Mustangs fall 1-0 to Unioto

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were unable to gain a non-conference win on Wednesday night (Sept. 16) as they lost a tough battle with the visiting Unioto Lady Shermans by a 1-0 score at LCHS.

The lone goal came within the first 15 minutes of the match in the first half when Unioto’s Brandy Robinson put the ball past the keeper for the 1-0 lead that stood for the remainder of the match.

UHS keeper Sydney Free totaled 11 saves in the match.

The loss snapped LC’s four-game winning streak, moving them to 4-2 overall on the season. In conference play in 2020, LCHS is 3-0, while in non-conference play the Lady Mustangs are 1-2.

The points leader thus far for LCHS is Karlie Tipton with 15 points, including seven goals and one assist. Also with double-digit points thus far in 2020 is Raelynn Ruble with 11 points (four goals, three assists).

At goal for LCHS, Philemina Toca has 17 saves to lead the team.

Next for the Lady Mustangs is a non-conference match on Friday, Sept. 18 at home vs. Georgetown at 6:45 p.m.

GIRLS GOLF: McClain falls to Clinton-Massie

The McClain Lady Tigers golf team played at the Wilmington Elks Wednesday as they faced the host Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons, but lost in the non-conference match.

Scores for MHS included: Bri Weller (40), Shayna Beatty (51), Emma Stegbauer (51), Cate Willis (54), Abby Wise (54) and Jacolyn Bolender (57).
