The Fairfield Lions continued to stay in first place in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference with an undefeated record by defeating the Fayetteville Rockets 54-41, Tuesday night in Fayetteville.

Fairfield won with three players scoring in double figures, with those players being TJ Mootz with 15 points, Gunner Bennington with 14 points and with 13 points was Larkin Friend.

Mootz had a double-double in the win, as he also added 10 rebounds to his 15 points. Bennington’s points came on five two-point field goals, one 3-pointer and he was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Bennington with his 14 points put together a game which included three 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and one made free throw. Bennington added eight rebounds and a block to his totals. 

Friend finished with his 13 points coming from one 3-pointer, five two-point baskets and he was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Friend in the victory also added six rebounds and seven assists. 

Other scoring totals for the Lions were Gabe Fouch with seven points, Cade Miller with three points and Trey House with two points. 

The Lions were without team leading scorer Tytis Cannon.

For the game, Fairfield made seven 3-pointers as a team and went 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. Fayetteville went 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.  

FHS out-rebounded the Rockets, 31-26. 

In the game the Lions trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, but after outscoring the Rockets 17-8 in the second quarter, it was Fairfield leading at halftime 25-17.

Fayetteville won the third frame at 13-12, and in the fourth quarter Fairfield scored 17 points, while the Rockets totaled 11 points in the final quarter.

The win by Fairfield keeps them undefeated at 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the Division I SHAC standings.
