Mothers are the glue that hold our families together. They know just what to say to make bad news okay or good news even better, and they somehow have the ability to be both a source of comfort and strength at the same time.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and the perfect opportunity to thank all the mothers in our lives for everything they do.

The past year has showed us that mothers are even stronger than we could’ve imagined. While students learned from home, many mothers became full-time teachers while working full-time jobs and of course the most important, and often most difficult, full-time job there is: parenting. Whether you’re changing their diaper or their tires, there isn’t a duty in the world that can compare to taking care of our children.

As parents we hope and pray we’re raising our kids right. I remember leaving the hospital after our first child, Nikki, was born. (She’d be angry if I said how many years it has been, so let’s just say it was a while ago).

There was no rulebook or instruction manual to follow. Jackie and I learned along the way, and we were fortunate enough to have loving mothers of our own to lean on. With a little luck and a whole lot of patience, we couldn’t be prouder of the people our three children have grown up to be. And that is largely thanks to their mother. Following their moms’ example, my daughters and daughter-in-law have become incredible mothers as well. Granted, I might be biased, but aren’t all dads?

This Mother’s Day, be sure to let the mothers, grandmothers, step-mothers, aunts, and mother figures in your life know how much you appreciate everything they do. Motherhood can sometimes be a thankless job, making Mother’s Day that much more important to celebrate.

Whether you have lunch together, buy some flowers from your local florist, write a card or pick up the phone to call and let her know you’re thinking of her, it is important to celebrate the mothers in our lives. Mothers help make the world go round and deserve our thanks not just on Mother’s Day, but each and every day of the year.
