Richard Sorrell, 54, of Hillsboro, formerly of Troy, passed away April 29, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.  

Richard was born in Troy on April 23, 1967. 

Richard attended Troy High School, where he was active in wrestling, football and track. Richard graduated from Troy High School in 1986. His friends recall him as the life of the party. 

Richard married DeeDee (Ray) on July 1, 2017, and they resided in Hillsboro, Ohio. Richard was employed by Ryder Logistics. He had a true passion for his job as a truck driver. Richard was previously a CNA at the Black Mountain Center in North Carolina, where he showed a tremendous amount of compassion for his patients.

Richard enjoyed riding his motorcycle, but more than that, he loved spending time with his granddaughter Ryder Jade. She was the light of his day. He also had a special place in his heart for his nephew Kadan. He found great enjoyment in spoiling both of them. Richard also had an intense devotion to Little Debbie snacks.  

Richard is survived by his wife, DeeDee Sorrell; a daughter, Courtney Cook; a son, Kyle Carson; a granddaughter, Ryder Jade of Hillsboro; his father, Bobby Dragoo of Troy; two sisters, Tammy (Dean) Denlinger of Troy and Becky Eblin of Chillicothe; and a brother, Malcolm Eblin of Troy. Richard had three nephews and five nieces, along with five great-nieces and five great-nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Dragoo; maternal great-grandmother, Pearl Broughton of Troy; maternal grandparents, Jack and Dorothy Caplinger of Chillicothe; and aunt, Shirley Johnson of Chillicothe.    

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Highland District Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital for their tremendous care and compassion. 

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro is serving the family.
