Joyce Ann Doty Irwin, 89, of Richmond, Ind., formerly of Highland County, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Arbor Trace Family-First Senior Living in Richmond.

She was born April 22, 1932 on Anderson Road in Lynchburg, the daughter of the late Claude Adrian and Anna Lois Davisson Doty.

Joyce was a 1950 graduate of Lynchburg High School. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and had served her communities for many years as a nurses aide at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro, a Den Mother, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a past president of the Lynchburg Elementary School PTA, a member of the Lynchburg Mothers Club and Lynchburg Historical Society, and she had been a girls softball coach at the Lynchburg Ball Park. She was also a member of the Central Christian Church in Richmond, Ind.

She is survived by two children, Mark Kevin (Linda) Irwin of New Carlisle and Michelle Kara Irwin of Richmond, Ind.; one sister, Peggy Kay Schuyler of Reynoldsburg; one brother, Paul Adrian Doty of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Brooke (Jason) VanHoorebeke, Bethany (Brandon) Johnson of Richmond, Ind., Kyle (Sienna Ison) Kingsolver of Morehead, Ky., Lt. Matthew (Jodi) Irwin Henricks of Biloxi, Miss., and Kara (Jacob) Kingsolver Hanna of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 13 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bailey of Wilmington; 21 nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Michael Keith, Matthew Kimble and Mitchell Kelly Irwin; daughter-in-law, Lori Lee Irwin; grandson, Brandon Kevin Irwin; brother, Carl L. Doty; and a sister, Karen Doty.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23 at 1 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Mark Irwin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery near Lynchburg. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
