Hugh G. Fenner, 86, of New Market, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 at home.

He was born in Samantha, the son of the late Loyd and Eva (Rhoads) Fenner, never having lived more than nine miles from Hillsboro.

Hugh proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and retired from Rotary Forms as a Master Press Operator. Hugh was an active member of the Highland County Senior Center and VFW, where he played corn hole and was an avid card player. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the game of poker. Hugh loved spending time with his family and could often be found around the county cutting their lawns.

Hugh is survived by his lifelong partner, Sharon Fenner; his sons, Kelley (Esther) Fenner of Peebles and Daryl (Pam) Fenner of East Danville; his daughter, Dianna (David) Spain of Virginia Beach, Va.; his sisters, Jeannette Knauff and Jane Luman; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Mathew, Seth, Shane, Zach, James and Harley; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his son, Jarred; great-grandson, Brayden; brothers, Bud, Ray and Fred; and sisters, Carmen, Mary and Betty.

Graveside services, with military honors presented by the Highland County Veteran Honor Guard, will be held at the family home in the Fenner Family Cemetery on Leininger Haigh Road. Everyone is welcome Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at 10 a.m., with the burial at 11 a.m. Following services, a potluck luncheon will be held at 3311 Rural Road, New Market.
