Gene Edward Gillespie, 87, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at Edgewood Manor of Greenfield.  
He was born April 13, 1934, in Greenfield, the son of Joseph and Lucille (Ross) Gillespie.
Gene retired from Johnson Controls in Greenfield and then worked at Banta Publications, Greenfield Area Medical Center and Ivy & Twigs.
He was survived by his wife, Marlene (Bartley) Gillespie, whom he married Nov. 17, 1978; two sons, Christopher (Kathy) Gillespie of Chillicothe and George (Kathy) Gillespie of Frankfort; two stepsons, Neal Brewer of Greenfield and Bryan (Kim) Brewer of Greenfield; one stepdaughter, Anita George of Greenfield; two granddaughters, Sarah (Logan) Shepherd of Colorado and Emily (Weston) Davis of Chillicothe; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Baldwin of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Polly Garrison of Washington C.H. and Katy Baldwin of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Ruth Gillespie of Greenfield; stepdaughter-in-law, Cathy Brewer of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Henry James Davis; one stepson, Dennis Brewer; three brothers, Buck Adams, Harold Gillespie and Glenn Gillespie; one sister, Sally Neal; and both parents.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Greenfield Cemetery with Pastor Scott Graham officiating.
There will not be a public visitation observed.
The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield is serving the family.
