Nearly 25,000 ice cream lovers from throughout Ohio voted in Ohio Farm Bureau’s 2nd Annual Ohio Ice Cream Battle for their favorite go-to spot to cool off this summer with a cone, milkshake or banana split.

With nearly 22 percent of the overall votes, Michael’s Ice Cream in Jackson County is the 2020 contest champion.

“This is a great confirmation that our loyal customers still enjoy coming here and that what we are doing here has reached further than we ever realized,” said Meeka Mohler, the owner of Michael’s. “We couldn’t continue to do what we do without a strong customer base and the people who come in daily and support us like they always do.”

The informal survey was conducted on Facebook, and over 30 ice cream shops were represented in the final round.

Also making the Top 10 in this year’s Ohio Ice Cream Battle were:

• No. 2, Toft’s Dairy & Ice Cream, Erie County;

• No. 3, Dietsch Brothers Fine Chocolates and Ice Cream, Hancock County;

• No. 4, King Kone, Geauga County;

• No. 5, Mt. Healthy Dairy Bar, Hamilton County;

• No. 6, The Cone, Butler County;

• No. 7, Almost Heaven Ice Cream, Stark County;

• No. 8, Terry’s Icecream Dairy Bar, Highland County;

• No. 9, Miller’s Drive-In, Huron County; and

• No. 10, Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream, Belmont County.

“The dairy industry is such an important part of Ohio agriculture so it should come as no surprise that our state is rich in amazing places to find great ice cream,” said Pat Petzel, vice president of communication for Ohio Farm Bureau. “People are very passionate about their favorite ice cream, so each location in our Top 10 is surely worth the trip.”
