On Saturday, May 18, more than a dozen local authors will gather in downtown Chillicothe for a unique event. Wheatberry Books is hosting the Local Author Showcase on East 4th Street next to Paper City Coffee and the Mighty Children's Museum.

"When we launched Wheatberry Books, we wanted to promote reading," owner Chelsea Bruning said. "We also wanted to promote the great writing talent from right here in the Scioto Valley. This event is the perfect way to do that."

The Local Author Showcase, which runs from 1-5 p.m., allows attendees to meet the people behind the stories, ask questions and get a signed copy of the books they've written.

"It isn't often that you're able to read an amazing story and dive deeper into it by talking directly to the person who either lived it or created it," Bruning said.

From children's books to novels, love stories to ghost stories, local talent has written a wide variety of works.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available along South Paint Street or in a municipal parking lot at West 4th Street and South Paint Street.
