With increasing numbers of employees of the federal government and federal contractors nationwide forced to seek charitable food after missing a paycheck, Hunger Free America, a national nonprofit group, announced a new “Fed Food” toll-free 800 line and web portal to help anyone affected to locate free food and/or to volunteer their time to fight hunger.

On that day, the Appalachian Artisans Guild will present its 16th annual Cabin Fever Arts Festival in the Patriot Center on the central campus of Southern State Community College in Hillsboro. Admission is free and open to the public, and doors will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

    The Highland County Homeless Shelter is preparing for the annual Point-In-Time to be held from Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. to Jan. 23 at 6 a.m., followed by a service-based count (ODJFS, food pantries, Community Action, etc.) from Jan. 23-31 to identify any additional unsheltered individuals on the night of the Point-In-Time.
